Love of beauty is Taste

Love of beauty is Taste. The creation of beauty is Art.
~Ralph Waldo Emerson

What an exquisite quote.

While I prefer to look at art that is, to me, really beautiful, I have had to grow up and accept that all art is not beautiful.  It can be compelling. It may be painful to experience. It can simply be great design.

Is that art?

For example, I feel a kind of quickening in my heart around great typography, which is not fine art, but can be a stellar use of familiar elements resolved in a way that makes you appreciate that it’s RIGHT.

I love tons of white space around an object or a design.

I hate it when things are about to fall off the                                                   edge.

So maybe design is more a sense of artistically derived BALANCE.

Here is my question for you:             Is what is not fine art, not art at all?
